Flat, flat, flat, Texas at sunset.
The famous, classic, and totally rad, Route 66.
The Lorraine Motel - where MLK was killed. Memphis.
The Crossroads, Clarksdale, Miss. where Robert Johnson sold his soul to the devil.
Somewhere on the road...obviously.
Road trips must-haves: $7 iTrip from Chinese store in Toronto, GPS "Idiot Penelope Palimpsest Jr," road maps, reporter notebooks, headscarves to keep hair from flying in face.

Beers and Blues

Delta Blues in the Mississippi Delta... that's how they do it at The Cotton Gin Inn.

Welcome to the Shack Up Inn!

Also known as The Cotton Gin Inn, The Shack Up Inn was built on an old plantation and most of the original buildings are still intact.  Last night we stayed in a groovy love shack called Electric Blue (featured in the above video!) and headed to the lobby/stage/bar area (all built inside the actual cotton mill) for some cold beers and blues.  Very, very cool place.  But 12 hours later, we're exhausted and sloshing around in the torrential downpour and thick mud.                       Oh, Mississippi...

Check it out: The Shack Up Inn

The Irondale Cafe

At the Irondale Cafe, if you don't want it fried, you're in the wrong place.  Fried green tomatoes are their specialty!  This place was also the inspiration behind the Whistle Stop Cafe, made famous in the 1991 movie Fried Green Tomatoes.

Day 1

Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.

Deep in the Deep South

On the road to Columbus from Savannah. Four hours feels like a little trip to the mall or coffee shop, after a 13 hour ride the day before. It got dark soon after this and we were on COUNTRY ROADS...take me home, to the place I belong...
Les Sangwich on-the-move! Made IN the car. We love grocery stores.
In Georgia, on stunning Jones street.
Savannah in the afternoon. Beautiful boulevards, parks, trees and colonial homes.
Late dinner in Savannah on the river.
Savanna at night from the highway/bridge.

After 13 hours in one day, we made it to Savannah...and now, still in Georgia, we're in Columbus... and no, we never heard of it before either.
